To me, there is nothing more joyful than writing for kids. Children’s literature is steeped in kindness, insight, silliness, empathy, wonder, and hope. It is a great gift – and profound responsibility – to write for the best audience ever.
I began my career in children’s publishing as a contributing editor of ASK, a nonfiction magazine published by the Cricket Magazine Group. Since then, I have written articles for magazines such as ASK, Click, Highlights for Children, and YES Mag: Canada’s Science Magazine for Kids. I made my fiction debut with the picture book Heading to the Wedding (Red Rock Press), and the picture book Just So Willow (Sterling Publishing) published in October of 2019. As a teacher, I enjoy educational publishing as well. I contributed articles to two of World Book’s Childcraft Annuals and served as a copy editor for one. In addition, I co-authored three teacher’s guides for Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. I’m actively involved in the Illinois chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). I also dabble in personal narratives— my work has appeared in three anthologies, as well as Chicago Parent Magazine. I am working on many new stories, which I hope will soon make their way out into the world.
